Cruise ship tender windows Rapid turnaround on a recent acrylic lifeboat windows order. Polycarbonate sheet is also available Some windows used 1/4" while others required 3/8" plexiglas, clear or tinted. ( smoked ) A well known cruise ship company supplied simple templates, that were used to cut size and shape. |
Plexiglass is not really glass at all, just a common tradename for acrylic (plastic)
sheet. Actually, the correct spelling is Plexiglas. Lucite, is another common brand name of acrylic plastic. Lexan is a brand name for polycarbonte sheet a more durable, almost unbreakable clear material. See Through Clear Plastics is used for: Museum Glazing Tanning Bed Glazing Pedestrian Walkway Glazing Security Bullet-Resistant Glazing Hockey Rink Glazing Panels Picture Glazing Lenses and Optical Glazing Patio Table School Windows Skylights, Covered Walkways, Atriums Bus Shelters, Transit Stations General Construction, Industrial Glazing, Flat or Curved Glazing Privacy Glazing Store Front Security |

Machine grade polycarbonate is a hard and rigid material that offers remarkable impact strength and flexibility. In contrast to many other thermoplastics, the mechanical properties are only marginally influenced by temperature flucuations. It absorbs almost no water and has good insulating characteristics. This plastic is often used for structual applications such as electrical components. Due to its amorphous structure, polycarbonate is susceptible to stress cracking and its notch sensittivity is high. |
Clear Plastic Sheets The acrylic sheet on the right has better optical clarity. The polycarbonate (lexan) sheet on the left has more impact resistance. |
